Reel Talk…
Common questions before we get out on the water. Don’t feel like I answered them? Reach out with other questions.

I’m not a fly fishing guide in the traditional sense. What I offer is private instruction & education which is more flexible than a standard guide trip. It can be an hour or a full day, on a stream or on a lawn, one-on-one or a small group. If you're looking to get better at fly fishing (not just get someone to put you on fish), that's my lane.

No. Most people I teach are starting from zero, and beginners are honestly my favorite group to work with. You don't need any experience, and you won't get judged for asking a question.
-
Nothing for your first class. I'll bring rods, reels, lines, and flies. If you already own gear, bring it and we'll use it, but don't buy anything before your first lesson. Half the point of taking a class is figuring out what you actually need before you spend money.

The Resources page has a full list. Short version: Orvis has great beginner kits, TCO Fly Shop and Slate Run Tackle Shop are great shops within driving distance, and I'm happy to give you a specific recommendation once I know how you fish.

In and around Wellsboro, PA: Pine Creek and its tributaries. For private lessons, I can travel within reason. For group events, check the Events page for the specific location.

Rates depend on time, location, and group size, so pricing is by conversation rather than a flat number. Reach out with what you're looking for and I'll give you a quote.

Usually around three hours. Long enough to actually learn something, short enough that you're not fried by the end. Private lessons can run shorter or longer depending on what you want.
-
Yes; some of the best classes I've taught have been parents and kids together. Reach out and we'll build something that works for the ages and attention spans involved.
-
Yes. I've taught folks with a range of physical and cognitive needs, and I plan to volunteer with Project Healing Waters. Reach out and tell me what you need; we'll figure it out.

We reschedule. Fly fishing in a thunderstorm is a bad time for everyone. I'll keep an eye on the forecast and we'll pick a better day.
